I worked for several years for a large, local hearing aid center prior to co-founding Hearing at Home. I went on to receive my National Board Certification as well as becoming a Certified Dementia Practitioner to better serve my patients. As Co-Founder of Hearing at Home it has been extremely rewarding to see our vision of making hearing health care more accessible and affordable come to fruition. In less than 2.5 years we have grown to 5 specialists serving nearly 20 counties in Virginia.
I came to the health care industry after being involved in a serious accident that left me with 3 broken vertebrae. I was treated by many different doctors, specialists and therapists. It was during this period I discovered the value of having a care giver who would take time to listen, answer questions and was passionate about the care they provided. After regaining my health I dedicated myself to bringing these values to my profession and continue to work hard to be the best provider possible. I am privileged also to be a volunteer that provides remote programming of hearing aids for full time volunteers and missionaries around the globe.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I always wanted to be an inventor. I had a large erector set as a child and was constantly build contraptions in my bedroom. I was fascinated by the thought (and still am) that of all the people who had ever lived, you could create something that no one else had ever thought of.
If you could have dinner with three people, who would they be?
Benjamin Franklin and Nikol Tesla for their incredible inventiveness and of course Jimmy Stewart the actor since I have had a lifetime of people asking me to do a Jimmy Stewat impersonation.
What is your favorite movie of all time?
The African Queen. I really enjoy classic movies from Hollywood’s golden era.
What is your favorite food to eat?
Linguini and clam sauce!!! My wife and I make it together every Sunday evening and it has become something I truly look forward to each week.
Where is your dream vacation destination?
Italy. We finally made it there for our 30th anniversary in 2019. It did not disappoint.
What do you like to do when you're not working?
We have many friends in our congregation where we worship that are getting older and need practical help. We enjoy helping out with projects around their homes that they are unable to do themselves anymore. I enjoy working in my own yard and having time to enjoy the variety of wildlife that pass through. If there is anytime left, I really enjoy a round of golf with friends.
What makes you laugh the most?
My wife. I may sound corny but she is my best friend and after a long day or week of many responsibilities just being silly with her makes me laugh.
What would you sing at Karaoke night?
Anything that requires 2 singers!!! That way they can hopefully drown out my voice. Not a great singer.
Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?
Coffee, coffee, coffee. Did I mention coffee?
What is your favorite thing about Hearing at Home?
Because of our unique mobile service, time and time again we have patients or their loved ones tell us that if not for us, they would not have been able to get the help they need, whether due to health issues or just an incredibly busy lifestyle. Better hearing has the ability to transform a life almost instantly. It is gratifying and humbling to have the opportunity to have a career that is able to have a positive impact on so many lives.
